The Three Basic Systems: A Summary
The first two energy systems are anaerobic, meaning they do not require oxygen. The aerobic energy system must have oxygen or the entire process will slow down and potentially stop completely. The oxygen needed by this system is provided by the cardiovascular and respiratory systems via blood flow to the tissues.
Although there are many types of energy, the most efficient forms are renewable: hydro-thermal, tidal, wind, and solar. Solar energy has been proven to be the most efficient and effective among renewable energy sources for home and commercial use.
The body uses three main nutrients to function— carbohydrate, protein, and fat. These nutrients are digested into simpler compounds. Carbohydrates are used for energy (glucose). Fats are used for energy after they are broken into fatty acids.

Carbohydrates are the preferred source of fuel during high-intensity bouts of exercise such as a one rep max back squat attempt or a 100-meter sprint. They also provide energy for exercise efforts of up to 2-3 minutes depending on fitness level (Kenney, 2015).
Since the intensity is low to moderate, you’ll want to make sure your workouts are long enough (work your way up to 45 minutes to an hour) so the body burns fat instead of stored carbohydrates. In the beginning of your workouts, sugars and stored carbs are burned first.

Remember that the body burns carbohydrates first, followed by fats and proteins only when the other two are depleted. Therefore if the carbohydrates in the diet are limited, the body will start to burn fat stores.

If more glucose is consumed than can be stored as glycogen, it’s converted to fat for long-term storage of energy. Starchy carbohydrates that are high in fibre release glucose into the blood slower than sugary foods and drinks.
